Movie about homeopathy - Magic Pills
“The highest ideal of cure is the speedy, gentle, and enduring restoration of health by the most trustworthy and least harmful way.” -Samuel Hahnemann, founder of homeopathy
As a homeopath and health coach, I am partial to this movie. Homeopathy has been a large part of our recovery, and I have witnessed many more stories like ours. I refer to homeopathy frequently in my book, Lives Paralleled, because of how powerful and permanent the healing can be.
Excerpt from Lives Paralleled:
Homeopathy works with the healing mechanism of the body by supporting its innate responses. If the body wants to create inflammation at the site of a burn for the purpose of healing tissue damage at the burn site, the homeopathic remedy chosen will reflect a key component of inflammation, to help the body respond appropriately and faster. For centuries, homeopathy has proven to reduce and eliminate tumors, heal aching limbs, reverse nutritional deficiencies, speed up recoveries of all kinds, treat and prevent epidemics and even eliminate pain of all kinds, without causing harm in the process. I bet you are wondering why doctors all over aren’t using it, if it works so well. Because the pharmaceutical industry is a major money-making business. There were homeopathic hospitals in just about every state at one time. If you go down the rabbit-hole of how that changed, you will find pharmaceuticals (namely antibiotics) at the root of its demise.
Thankfully, homeopathy is still a medical art that is available and it’s worth the investment. My opinion, contrary to what anyone believes, is that it WILL work for anyone and everyone, as long as they find the right practitioner match for their situation. There are literally dozens of different styles of treatment and on one hand, and this is great, because it offers numerous options, however, it can also create a dizzying effect when you are navigating the recovery of one’s health.
Homeopathy treats the patient as a whole. Modern medicine has made a habit of compartmentalizing illness by separating the symptom/organ from the whole being. There are doctors specialized in the gastrointestinal tract, others specialized in mental illness, others for the heart, and so on. By suggesting they are specialized in their field, we are lead to believe that they know everything there is to know about that organ, but what about how it interacts with the other organs in the body? For example, when the intestinal tract is inflamed, this can result in mental symptoms, because half of our neurotransmitters are in our intestines. A person experiencing mental illness might not know to consider their gastrointestinal health and could end up going to a psychiatrist who will ultimately put this person on mind altering drugs, in an attempt to deal with the mental disturbances the only way he knows how.
The personal and particular expressions of illness can be witnessed in all illnesses. Let’s take the example of the common cold. Two people can contract the same virus, yet the symptoms they exhibit may be completely different. One person might have symptoms of a runny nose, itchy skin, diarrhea and they might feel better when they drink ice water, but worse from being covered in blankets and warmth. The second person may have symptoms of bloating and constipation, dry lips and mouth, a splitting headache and they could feel better drinking warm drinks and made worse by fresh air. The mind, body and spirit are interdependent forces, they are united. Kirlian photography has confirmed through images that in a healthy state, the mind, body and spirit remain in balance. If, however, the vital force is disturbed, they become imbalanced eventually resulting in illness or dis-ease and symptoms ultimately develop in the physical body.
Trauma creates a negative imprint on the vital force and that negative imprint causes pathological problems. An old knee injury is healed up physically, but the memory, the impression on the vital body at the site of the knee injury causes that knee to be weaker than the other knee. We must treat the mind, body and spirit together in order to see unified balance return. The chosen homeopathic remedy must be just as individual as the person. Homeopathic case taking is quite a lengthy process, which unravels the many unique characteristic layers of the patient, therefore, ideal remedy matches are essential to healing. Healing may take place on a zig zag path over a number of years, or less frequently, with a perfect one-time match, but the right remedies are critical none the less.
If you’ve ever questioned why homeopathy isn’t more widely used or how other countries are continuing to use it, I would recommend this documentary. If you decide to watch it, I would also recommend watching with the subtitles on because of some hard to understand interviews. 😉
About the movie
Homeopathic medicine is one of the most widely used forms of alternative medicine on the planet but, despite its popularity, it has come under a great deal of scrutiny in recent years and is now a favorite target for skeptics and debunkers. The controversy surrounding homeopathic medicine is founded in the belief that something so highly diluted cannot work without violating the laws of chemistry. Magic Pills challenges viewers to decide for themselves by presenting new scientific discoveries, and real world successes that challenge these assumptions.
Many medical journals refuse to publish positive studies due to systemic bias, and the media can distort the truth by omitting information. The stakes are immense, if homeopathy works it could transform the medical system, and provide safe, affordable, and effective medicine. Is the truth being buried?
Journey with Ananda to Tanzania, where for the past 25 years a husband-and-wife duo of homeopathic doctors are using their skills to help thousands of HIV/AIDS patients in the most remote regions of the country. To Cuba, where she was the only person from outside the country given permission to tell the story of how homeopathic medicine given to millions of people stopped an epidemic in just a few weeks. To Kolkata, India, where the Banerji Clinic is having unparalleled success treating otherwise incurable brain tumors and other forms of cancer. To Mumbai, India where an MIT trained chemical engineer has discovered nanoparticles in the most dilute medicines. And finally to Switzerland, where a government-commissioned study led to by the public health-insurance program covering homeopathy.
If you are looking for the science behind homeopathy and you want to see studies, The Homeopathic Institute is the place to start. HRI is an innovative international charity created to address the need for high quality scientific research in homeopathy. The charity was founded by physicist, Dr. Alexander Tournier, who previously worked as an independent researcher for Cancer Research UK, conducting interdisciplinary research at the boundaries between mathematics, physics and biology. Those who use homeopathy religiously have typically experienced something of their own, making them believers in this mystical medicine, but if you haven’t had your “wow” moment yet, this site might put homeopathy on your radar.
To get you started, I recommend a homeopathic self-care kit and a book for acute treatments at home in “Recommended Reading.”
